The formal academic system of ancient India — mathematics, astronomy, medicine, chemistry and metallurgy, linguistics, logic, architecture and statecraft — taught the way Takshashila and Nalanda taught it: a syllabus, an examination, a degree. Not scripture class. A curriculum, examined and certified.
The faculties
A formal academic system, not a scripture class
India ran universities with entrance examinations, faculties, residential scholars and degrees while most of the world had none. These are its subjects, each named with the work that defines it.
GanitaMathematics
Arithmetic, algebra, geometry and trigonometry — the decimal place value system and zero, Aryabhata’s Aryabhatiya, Bhaskaracharya’s Lilavati and Bijaganita.
Jyotisha & KhagolaAstronomy
Planetary motion, eclipses, the calendar and instruments — the Surya Siddhanta, Varahamihira’s Pancha Siddhantika, the observatories that followed from them.
AyurvedaMedicine and surgery

The lineage. Takshashila, Nalanda, Vikramashila,
Valabhi, Odantapuri — residential universities with entrance
examinations, faculties and international students, centuries before the
universities of Europe. Sanatan Dham is rebuilding that system as a modern
curriculum: a syllabus, an examination, a certificate.
Where dharma sits. Scripture and dharma are one domain of
eight in the curriculum. This is an academic syllabus with a moral
grounding — not a religion class with some science attached.

The numbers you are readingDecimal place value and zero
Zero as a number, place value, and the rules for operating with them are set out by Aryabhata in the Aryabhatiya and by Brahmagupta in the Brahmasphuta Siddhanta. It is the arithmetic the whole world now uses.
TrigonometryJya — the sine function
The jya and utkrama-jya tables of the Surya Siddhanta and the Aryabhatiya are the origin of the sine function on every calculator and in every science.
Binary and combinatoricsPingala
Pingala’s treatise on metre sets out binary enumeration, the halving algorithm and the combinatorial triangle — the mathematics every computer is built on.
Formal grammarPanini to compilers
Panini’s Ashtadhyayi is a generative grammar of ordered rules, meta-rules and conflict resolution — the structure on which formal grammars, compilers and language technology are built.
SurgerySushruta
The forehead-flap nose reconstruction described in the Sushruta Samhita was carried out of India and entered world surgery under the name it still holds — the “Indian method”.
SteelRasashastra metallurgy
Indian crucible steel was made and exported for centuries, and the metallurgy behind it could not be reproduced anywhere else until the modern era.
